VI of Wands

Ink & Embroidery on Paper 2020
5.5″ x 8.25″

This is the card of Victory, of goals met and accomplishments recognized. The woman has carried a sick generation of children out of an apocalyptic world of pandemic, hate and discrimination into a world of health and revolution. The children in hospital gowns appreciate the woman. The woman represents our efforts to improve and heal our environment for future generations. Her tattoos map landmarks along her journey, including “1312,” “BLM,” “Ohlone Land,” “No Borders” and the fight against coronavirus. The horse represents the woman’s strength. Each of the six children carry a wand, a baton to pass on to the following generation. The baton is both a gift and a responsibility.

The Hanged Person

Ink & Embroidery on Paper 2020
13.5″ x 20.5″

The hanged person takes a moment to observe and reflect on the world around him. The coronavirus, unhealthy air quality and societal deterioration overwhelms him. As he heals his mind through meditation and reflection, the world around him begins to heal. This healing is represented by the halo. Around the halo, the orange sky becomes blue and lichen grows, an indication of a healthy environment.
